Borussia Mönchengladbach have secured all three points in their Bundesliga clash against 1. FC Köln at the Veltins-Arena on Saturday evening.
The hosts took the lead early on through Christian Göttsching’s header but it was only short-lived as Cologne levelled things up with a goal from Julian Weigl before half-time.
Göttsching had another chance to put Gladbach ahead but he couldn’t convert his penalty kick and the game remained scoreless at the break.
But the visitors were able to take the lead after the restart when Borussia’s substitute Kevin Trapp made a crucial save to deny Köln’s Julian Draxler.
However, the visitors were unable to hold onto their advantage and Gladbach came back into the match through a goal from Julian Schär just before the hour mark.
And then, with minutes remaining, Borussia’s Florian Klein sealed the win for the hosts by heading home a corner to make sure of victory for the visitors.
It was a well-deserved win for Gladbach who moved up to fifth place in the league table while Cologne remain in mid-table.
Overall, it was a great display of football from both teams, but Gladbach’s defensive solidity proved to be the difference between the two sides.
In conclusion, this was a fantastic match that saw both teams play some excellent football. It was a close encounter throughout and it will be interesting to see how these two teams perform in the coming matches.
